Dropping the Alan Ball....(True Blood S4 Ep. 4 and 5)
If anyone still regularly follows (which I don't imagine you would), I
am sorry. Two weeks have gotten away from me and I have not been able
to comment on the previous episodes of True Blood. Now, I'm hoping that
will change as of the next episode - we'll see. But for now let's mash
up a little of my thoughts on the last two.
Maury Povich: you need to hire this kid ASAP if you want your show
to improve its ratings!!!! And Lettie Mae and her new preacher husband
perform a hilarious exorcism - although, last time Lettie Mae messed
with that kind of stuff, it set the stage for big trouble (remember Miss
Jeanette in Season One?).
Geneology hits Vampire Bill hard too. A question for anyone reading this: would you hook up with your great-great-great grandparent if they were an attractive immortal vampire?
Here's to Sam and Jason's story becoming interesting again. Jason may or may not turn into a werepanther, but he DID have a vampire blood induced erotic fever dream about Jessica.....and Hoyt. He also speaks tragicomically about being gang raped, which makes me think he's not really traumatized, and that he's still, in fact, a sex addict. Sam's got kid brother trouble, and his mysterious new girlfriend continues to intrigue.
The witchery continues to be well-executed. There's an excellent scene where Sookie's telepathy meets head witch Marnie's spirit channeling, and Sookie gets to hear from her beloved grandmother. Very nice. There's a subplot in the past about the Spanish inquisition and a sect of Catholic vampire monks actively persecuting witches that I want to see unfold. Now, Jesus and Lafayette travel to Mexico to meet Jesus's powerful Brujo grandfather. They fear they need power to stave off a pissed off Eric Northman. Sorry, but the witches are 2 for 0 against the vampires - I don't think they have anything to worry about! Is it bad that I wanted Danny Trejo to play Brujo grandpa? I know, he doesn't always have to play every single badass Mexican on TV and films. But it would have been fun.
I've been searching everywhere for Wiccan outrage against True Blood but I can't find it. "The Craft", "Charmed" - a whole bunch of witchcraft properties have been the target of offended Wiccans. If anyone finds some, could you let me know? It's very strange that the show insists on the term Wicca, which as a religion has only existed since the early part of the 20th century. I have seen Wiccans speak out against films and TV shows that merely use the term 'witch'. I don't think the Wiccan religion owns 'witch', but that's just me and I'd love to hear other opinions.
Eric, Sookie, Bill, Eric, Sookie, Bill - Alcide on the periphery - Eric, Sookie, Bill.
And that's all I got. I promise to try to be more On the Ball...

Hey Chiller, I'll take
whatever you've got. It's hard to write every week about a show. I'm
looking forward to seeing King Bill bust in on Eric and Sookie right
before they about to get down to business :) I think more than anything
Bill's hurt that Sookie lied to him. They're hinting in the preview that
Bill will try to sentence Eric to "the true death," which was Pam's
greatest fear. I don't get that. Why would Eric have to die just because
his memory was erased? Can he not be retrained and reassimilated? At
the very least, they should wait to see if the witch might be able to
reverse the spell. It seems very odd to me that they would just just
throw away a powerful old vamp and good earner like Eric for that reason
alone. Anyway, until next week...
A werepanther? I
didn't even know such mythical creatures existed in fiction. It just
goes to show that, when reading OS, every day is something new.
Also, I initially mis-read "The witchery continues ...," thinking for a brief second that you were mentioning the great Witchypoo from H. R. Pufnstuf. If Witchypoo made a cameo in any form of contemporary entertainment, I'd be on it like a diry shirt.
As always, highly entertaining, witty writing.

The erotic dream of
Jason's with Hoyt made me laugh out loud. That doesn't happen often with
this show. Great wrap up. Did you enjoy Game of Thrones?
BBabe - I also don't
get why "Eric Needs to Die!" other than as you surmised, King Bill is
trying to get him out of his and Sookie's life
VA- HR Pufnstuff should be its own post someday....
