Just what did I think of True Blood: Season 3?
Thanks, bluestocking babe, for remembering my lame and less-than-half assed attempt to blog the entire Season 3 of True Blood.  The project had to be abandoned due to various reasons, not least of which were my wedding and honeymoon. Everyone should check out bluestocking babe's blog, and her True Blood recaps/reviews, especially the one for the season finale.
So what did I think of the season? Scattered, disjointed, frustrating, disappointing at times, it was still for my money the best serial entertainment of the year.  The vampire political intrigue was satisfying.  Jessica continues to be my current favorite character.  Franklin Mott was 10 shades of awesome (but also a missed opportunity - think what they could have made out of his obsession with Tara).  Lafayette's romance with the shamanic Santero nurse Jesus is a promising development.
But next season, Alan Ball & co. are going to have to tighten up their storytelling game.  Quit glutting the cast with random storylines and supernatural creatures, and get back to the heart of the story.  We get it; "True Blood" is the "anti-Twilight" - there's sex and sex and porny Rolling Stone covers.  Now how about a good story sandwiched in between all that sex?
I shouldn't talk.  I'm also scattered and disjointed and random.  Thus, some other thoughts, bullet-point style:
  • I couldn't care any less about the inbred meth-whore were-panther chick and her clan.
  • Faeries -- hmmm -- I have an urge to mock all the dancing and frolicking around, but it's not wholly unintriguing.
  • Angelic Godric popping up here and there like "It's a Wonderful Life" - this could be good (or good-bad).
  • Now that Bill has engaged in some revolting Exorcist/Death Becomes Her sex, and Eric has confirmed the hopes of many a slash-fiction writer by almost engaging in very explicit man-on-man sex, will a certain percentage of the supernatural romance fans following "True Blood" place all their hopes and lusts on Alcide?
  • I liked Sam's story arc until it hit the "oooh I was a dark, angry alcoholic" phase.
  • The witchy new waitress - Maryann lite?
  • And finally, does Tara have her groove back? Will the new hair mean an end to her whiny victimhood and her return to being the caustic, witty heart of the show?
