Salt Lake magazine's September/October issue, with its rundown of the haunted and paranormal sights of Utah, brought to my attention the tombstone of Lilly E. Gray (1881 - 1958).
In case you can't see, the bottom of the tombstone reads "Victim of the Beast 666."
A chillingly enigmatic epitaph, no? Makes you think Mrs. Gray may have been killed by little Damien Thorn, or perhaps in a parking-lot shoving match with Aleister Crowley. Urban legends have naturally sprung up around this tombstone, including her death in an exorcism gone wrong.
Salt Lake magazine has debunked any notions of Mrs. Gray's confrontation with the Antichrist. (And we want fact and reason to triumph, don't we? Sigh. I guess. Hmph. Thanks for spoiling our fun, SL Magazine). The inscription is an expression of her husband's anger at the city of Salt Lake, whom he blamed for her death.

And speaking of weird in SLC, have you been to the Gilgal Gardens? Now THAT'S bizarre. Go there in the middle of the night, by the light of the moon.
