The August Phantasmagorical, 2012
Wherein
ChillerPop presents a short, unwordy lazy roundup of the month in
phantasmagoric, creepy, spooky, speculative, fantastical, wonderful,
science-fictiony, monstrous, psychotronic and strange...and stuff like
that...
Nothing much to see here folks, except this: if I am to do another 31 Days of Halloween for this year, I need to start now.
Furthermore, I'm still thinking of making it some sort of focused
theme. Any thoughts? These were the topics I had in mind and I would
like to poll any poor soul reading this on what they suggest.
One possibility - to help further my own fiction, a
series of posts on various things that would feature in this thing I'm
working on, if such a thing ever happens.
Another possibility - an alphabet (A is for.... and when I hit October 21st? I can figure that out).
the other possibilities (a list I posted previously)
- vampires
- werewolves
- witches
- Frankenstein
- Mummies
- Slashers/serial killers
- Ghosts/hauntings
- One particular author (King, Straub, Rice, etc.)
- Universal Pictures
- Hammer Films
- One particular franchise (Friday the 13th, Halloween, Saw, etc.)
- Paranormal "true" stories
- True crime
- Photography

Comments
Hmmm, I have to think
about the theme, Chiller. I'm almost finished reading King's
"Insomnia." How about the theme of shape-shifters or ribbon-cutters
like the 3 "doctors" in Insomnia.
I really really liked the true crime amd Crescent City posts you did laat year. Alpha order sounds fun too.
I like the alphabet idea. Once you run out of letters, you could do the rest with numbers, perhaps.
As for your list, I’d pump for Hammer Films and True crime. Ever written about or are a fan of “Basket Case”?

A heaping barbecue of the corpses of the rich. Dancing around the flames is optional. Black tie required.
Wow - is it almost that
time of year again? It sure is. Are you sure you want to limit
yourself to one theme? If you're going to write daily, maybe you could
devote each day of the week to a specific topic. Maybe one day could be
fiction, another day exploring what scares people in other cultures,
etc. Maybe even a day for poetry - gruesome, scary, etc. Will
continue to think about this.
Thanks all! After much
thought, it seems you would all be down with an "alphabet" - and I
think that may be the best thing to do. I'll be honest - I almost went
with an all-Frankenstein month, or all-Mummy....but, the alphabet format
will let me pull it off with minimal effort.
For the last 7 days maybe I will count down and focus on a franchise, or the respective number of one movie in a franchise.
Erica K - shape shifters and ribbon cutters? Very specialized! Let's see what I can do for one or two of the days...
Muse, would love to do that, and in fact I'd love to do it for my new hometown. But, it requires intense effort. Gotta keep it breezy. Again though, let's see if I can do one day...
VA, I think you'll like what I have in mind for Hammer! I'll also check out Basket Case as well as Cublet's beloved Amityville 4!
Dr. William Lee - it sounds like a charming fete. Perhaps I'll come across an example.
M. Chariot! M. Chariot! M. Chariot! (nothing, just jumping for joy because the legendary man of letters is back among us)
Hi Margaret! Your ideas are all terrific avenues to explore. Alas, like I said, I need to keep it breezy. But I will keep an eye out for poetry, horror of other cultures, and things that relate to my own fiction!
Sheila - will also see what I can do about some "true" local paranormal, and would love to see more of your stuff on this...
Trudge - my article "A Banner Season for Demons" is where I'm collecting all of that. And I need to go see "The Possession" so I can write an update.
Seer and Tink - alpha it is!
Thanks all!!!
